Help Documentation

Why does sync action fail when the Shared with Me folder or a folder within it is renamed?

When you install Zoho Docs Sync on your desktop, all the files and folders in your Zoho Docs account will become available in your sync folder. (If you have enabled selective syncing, only those files and folders that you have chosen to sync will be in the sync folder.) All the files and folders shared with you can be found in Zoho Docs > Shared with Me.

The Shared with Me folder contains files and folders that are shared not only with you, but also with other users. For this reason, you aren't allowed to directly create or add files or folders, move, or rename folders in this specific folder. If you rename this folder or an already downloaded file/folder in Shared with Me from your desktop, it will not be synced. The actual file/folder will lose its identity and will no longer exist in that location. You will also get the following error message.

Folder Sync Error

You can’t add, move, or rename the Shared with Me folder or other shared folders for which you have read-only permission. Please move the newly created or renamed folder to one of your personal folders or a shared folder for which you have read/write or co-owner permission level.

Missing Shared Folder

The shared folder has been moved or deleted from its original location. Please download and restore the missing folder in the original location.

To sync back the original file, select Re-sync failed folders option from the sync icon in the system tray. Once the file is synced back, you can delete the renamed file, because it won't be monitored for any changes.
